Edge - Perspectives on Drug Free Culture

I am sure some of you already have seen this documentary about the Edge scene. It is a review from the beginning of the movement with Ian MacKaye and the fantastic song "Straight Edge", goes through the process of development of veganism and reflects also some bad topics like violence against women or rather patriarchy within the scene.

The documentary is from 2009 and was produced by Compassion Media. Edge - The Movie explores the lives of 9 individuals, that identify as Straight Edge: Ian MacKaye (Minor Threat), "Ray Cappo" (Youth of Today), Pat Flynn (Have Heart), Kent McClard (Former of Abollution Records), Karl Buechner (Earth Crisis), Peter Young (Animal Activist), Priyesh Patel (involved in local Straight Edge Scene of Santa Cruz), Dr. Ross Haenfler (Author of "Straight Edge"), Russ Rankin (Good Riddance), Bull Gervasi (R.A.M.B.O.), Taylor Clements (young vegan-edge scholar) and last but not least Eva "Genie" Hall (singer of Gather).

Eva speaks about a bad side of the Hardcore scene and also the Straight Edge scene, sexist behaviour of men. Actually it is a bigger topic as I thought before, I guess. We go to shows, have fun, talk with the people, but often if there were also girls/women, men look at them and you can see in their eyes they only have two possible thoughts:

"Oh, a HC girl, I want her in my bed!"
"What? A girl? No way. I am here on a HC show and there is no place for pussies, only tough guys."

Eva speaks out to the scene and shows you in a few minutes in this documentary how women often feel on shows and what it needs to talk about equality of men and women.
